Tier 2 (General) is a visa category which allows UK employers to hire overseas nationals to fill a skilled role which could not be filled by a person settled in the UK.
In order to employ an overseas national, an employer will first have to obtain a sponsorship licence from UKVI. Once this is done, and provided all the legal requirements are met, the employer can assign a certificate of sponsorship to a prospective employee.
The prospective employee will then have to use the certificate of sponsorship to apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa.
