The EB-5 visa program allows foreign investors the opportunity to obtain conditional permanent resident (green card) status in the United States after investing in U.S. businesses. Capital investments start at $500,000 for businesses created in certain geographic areas which are experiencing low employment and $1,000,000 for businesses created in any other U.S. city. In order to encourage a diverse range of business investments, the U.S. government broadly permits investments in any lawful commercial enterprise. This provides the investor ample choice and opportunity to select a type of business investment which suits his or her prior experience or allows him or her to be innovative and create a new enterprise.

After the business has created at least ten jobs for U.S. workers during a two year period, the conditions on the permanent resident status can be removed allowing the investor to have full permanent resident status. U.S. permanent residents are able to reside and work anywhere in the United States. Additional benefits of permanent residency include faster entry to the U.S., the ability to apply for federal benefits as well as sponsoring relatives for green card applications. After five years of permanent residency the investor can apply for U.S. Citizenship.
